Maintenance Guidelines for Stone Floor Restoration

As marble refinishing specialists, preserving the beauty of natural stone floors and countertops is our area of expertise. We perform professional marble restoration to keep these surfaces looking like new over long stretches of time. However, as a home or business owner, there are plenty of steps you can take to make sure your stone floors stay well-preserved between professional marble polishing services.

Here are the guidelines we provide to clients to maintain their surfaces after we’ve performed stone restoration services:

How to Clean Polished Stone Surfaces

  1. Make sure surface is free of grit and residue before cleaning
  2. Mix one part ammonia (plain and free of coloring/scents) with 10 parts water
  3. Mop or wipe down the surface
  4. Dry the surface using a lint-free towel

Common Issues to Avoid with Polished Stone

Staining and etching is common with polished stone, so we encourage clients to be aware of substances that can cause damage. The most common ones include:

  • Most tile and bathroom cleaning products
  • Urine/pet accidents
  • Wine and other alcohol
  • Anything containing lemon or other natural acids
  • Water from the bottom of a potted plant

If your surface becomes damaged, you will need professional stone restoration services to remove the damage and restore shine.

How to Clean Unpolished Stone

Here are our guidelines for cleaning unpolished limestone or honed stone surfaces:

  1. Make sure surface is free of grit and residue before cleaning
  2. Mix one part Ivory liquid soap with 10 parts water in a bucket
  3. Lightly sponge the solution on to the surface
  4. Rinse with clean water
  5. Dry the surface using a lint-free towel, or allow to air dry
